POTENTIAL OF COW DUNG AMENDMENT TO ENHANCE LINDANE BIODEGRADATION IN CONTAMINATED AGRICULTURAL SOIL

چکیده

Efficacy of cow dung (CD) amendment as potential bioremediation tool for cleanup lindane contaminated agricultural soil was investigated in microcosms simulated the laboratory. Microcosm CDS with 5 mg kg-1 fortified 200 g CD while CTS1 similar to except that it received no amendment. Setup CTS2 contained uncontaminated only and designed evaluate physico-chemical biological dynamics under unstressed conditions. The trends observed physico-chemistry were much more pronounced setups when compared CTS2. This relatively significant between days 15 which incidentally periods striking microbial population changes, whereas, remained stable. In spite initial drop at onset study (though less than CTS1), over 18% degradation occurred system against 9% CTS1. Although overall rates both soils presented statistical differences (P < 0.05), effected a higher level degradation. Data this investigation suggest is stimulant relevant organisms metabolic functions test especially early stages study. Therefore, utilization organic wastes great should be exploited. will help reduce amount waste destined landfill, thus reducing landfill gas emissions. It also provide cheaper source supplement purposes ultimate aim cost bioremediation.

Enhanced Bioremediation of Brass Crude-Oil (Hydrocarbon), Using Cow Dung and Implication on Microbial Population

The present study has used soil samples from Nigeria, contaminated with Brass crude-oil, to determine its biodegradation through enhanced biostimulation with cow dung and periodic aeration. Over a period of twenty-eight days, the hydrocarbon-utilizing bacteria (HUB) and hydrocarbon-utilizing fungi (HUF) have been counted and identified. Results from biodegradation of the brass crude-oil over th...

Biodegradation of Polychlorinated Biphenyls by and Isolated from Contaminated Soil

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) cause many significant ecological problems because of their low degradability, high harmfulness, and solid bioaccumulation. Two bacterial strains were isolated from soil that had been polluted with electrical transformer liquid for more than 40 years. The isolates were distinguished as Lysinibacillus macrolides DSM54Tand Bacillus firmus NBRC1530...

New screening test to predict the potential impact of ivermectin-contaminated cattle dung on dung beetles.

According to European Union recommendations, a test method has been developed to evaluate the effects of veterinary pharmaceuticals on dung feeding insects. This test method was evaluated with the dung beetle Aphodius constans by using fecal residues of ivermectin after a pour-on administration. Dung of different age (and thus containing different concentrations of ivermectin) as well as mixtur...

Enhanced Biodegradation of Petroleum Hydrocarbons in Contaminated Soil

Soil samples taken from a contaminated site in Northern Quebec, Canada, exhibited a low capacity for biodegradation of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), despite a high capacity for the mineralization of aromatic hydrocarbons and a low toxicity of soil leachates as measured by Microtox assay. Toxicity assays directly performed on surface soil, including earthworm mortality and barley seedling ...
